News: The neighboring countries

In order to understand the life in Crespi d’Adda, we have to compare the society of the village to the life standard of the neighbouring countries. Today’s society obviously affected our point of view. The life standard in Crespi d’Adda was higher than in the surrounding area. In order to understand the feature of Crespi d’Adda, we offer you some stories of both the inhabitants of Crespi d’Adda and the people living in Capriate and in San Gervasio (at that time they were two different towns).
-
Our life was only difficulties, hunger, dirt and poverty. Giuseppe Carminati, born in San Gervasio in 1929.
Here it was beautiful, here we lived better. Daria Bacis, born in Crespi d’Adda in 1900

We attend the lessons in a theatre: we were over 30 children of different ages. There was the possibility to be in the same class with 4-5-year older students. There was always chaos. To get the discipline, the teacher beat us with a willow branch. We had a ruled notebook, a squared notebook, a pencil and a nib, but for a large family it was too expensive.
The school was beautiful, but there was a strict discipline. From the age of three to six, we were offered the kindergarten, but there was also the day nursery. The lessons were held from eight o’clock in the morning to midday and then from 1:30 p.m. to four o'clock. Crespi family paid all the expenses, the books and the notebooks. Daria Bacis
